The two teams met last week in what can easily be described as a potential IFL game of the year, although there are plenty of rounds left and interesting matches scheduled. Nebraska Danger is widely regarded as one of the best teams in the league and definitely the most in-form one, while their opponents are famous for being an excellent traveling team. The game was decided by Joe Houston who clinched the win in the final seconds of the game and propelled his team to the top of the standings.

There is a growing rivalry between these two teams, which means that this victory that grants Nebraska a 2-1 lead in the series will weigh heavily in the balance. After celebrating the important victory, the Danger will need to get ready for another tough confrontation against Sioux Falls. The Storm are known as a stringy team at home and it is most unlikely for the hosts will be even remotely intimidated by the dazzling offensive performance recently displayed by Nebraska.

Elsewhere, the IFL scheduled other breathtaking games, with the confrontation between Sioux Falls Storm and Chicago Slaughter being among the highlights of the week. It was Chicago who prevailed and QB Cody Kirby was the player who deserves all the credit in that particular game and in most of the six preceding matches. The Slaughter won 6 out 7 recent games and is one of the best teams with eight forced fumbles 18 interceptions and six defensive touchdowns. Chicago will try to replicate their Week 5 performance this week, when they meet the Revolution in Texas after defeating them by 51 to 26 at home.

After the disheartening defeat Nebraska, the Colorado Ice get ready for another tough encounter with the Wyoming Cavalry. This time they won’t have home pitch advantage and they will need Matthew Roark, Justin Helwege and Willie Copeland to play their best football. The latter does exactly that and ranks among the best passers in the league while retaining the crown for the most passing touchdowns. The other sore losers, the Storm, are trying to stay afloat in the highly competitive division but they need to improve their turnover number.

The American Indoor Football Association is one of the best organized ones, with a clear structure and mission, promising to make indoor football an affordable, fan friendly and competitive sport. The organization tries to keeps the costs low and that’s why they chose regionalized play instead of expanding at a fast pace. Even so, the organization shook hands with similar entities and two years ago the teams playing in the Southern and East area has merged. What resulted is a highly competitive minor league that has the potential of emerging into a National League in the foreseeable future.

There are two major divisions, one operating on the East Coast and one on the West Coast and the winner of a season is the one prevailing in the match between the best teams in both divisions. Indoor football is yet to achieve the same popularity of the game played outdoors but American Indoor Football Association laid a solid foundation. All of the games are played on regulation indoor size fields and comply with all the rules of the game so that the transition from amateur to professional football is made easy.

The organization has two distinct leagues, one being professional and the other developmental, with the former being the one gathering the best local teams. What makes AIF special is the fact that it looks after its players, despite the fact that they are not truly professional football players. They receive a comprehensive package, that includes meals, housing and wagers, giving them the impetus to perform.

The Developmental League is just like the name suggests a place where promising athletes and out of form players can work on their skills and prepare for advancing or returning to the next stage. The games are hosted by community recreation centers for smaller local arenas.

According to co-owner Jose Rodriguez, “The bottom line is Joffre and I do what is best for the Barnstormers and the best for the Barnstormers is the PCFL!  It will be great to renew the rivalry with some of the teams that forced us to get better! The Solano Chiefs were one of the powerhouses when we first started, and we have had we had many epic battles on the field with the Richmond War Angels who were the PCFL Champions this past season. The return of Charlie Ruiz and Fury is also something we’re excited about. Teams like the Fury are what made the CCB look at ourselves and say we need to get better as a whole organization if we are going to compete with them! We also look forward to teams we have not played like the Bears and Heat as well as the rest of the PCFL teams. Change is sometimes needed and we know we made the correct choice in coming to the PCFL!”

The Barnstormers new head coach is also a former Barnstormer head coach. Greg Garcia returns after a year off, and Jeff Parsley, the longest tenured Barnstormer coach has returned to help both ownership and coaching. Both guys are true Barnstormers and will assist Joffre Longoria in running the team.  The Barnstormers also welcome offensive coordinator Joey Eubanks to the coaching staff. Eubanks was the offensive coordinator of the now defunct Salinas Spartans during their league championship run.

Talons managing partner Paul Ross told The Tulsa World that low season ticket sales and joining the reorganized Arena Football League two years ago made it too costly to operate. Ross said the Talons’ attendance dropped more than 1,100 in 2011. An increase in league expenses came close to $250,000.

“It was a tough business decision because our hearts are in Tulsa,” Ross told The World. “But in the end, it came down to not enough ticket sales. It’s a sad day for all of us. We’ve been with this thing a long time.”

Ross partnered with Tulsa businessman Henry Primeaux in buying the franchise in 2004. The Talons drew well in the stands and succeeded on the field with several players who were former local college standouts.

The Tulsa Talons’ death follows that of Oklahoma City-based franchises: the Wranglers of the AFL (2000-2001); the Yard Dawgz of af2 and the reorganized AFL (2004-2010); and the Bricktown Brawlers (2011), who filed for bankruptcy after one season in the Indoor Football League. Oklahoma City also had an af2 franchise that never played a game. The Bullfrogs were expected to play the 2000 season in af2 before another ownership group brought in the higher-level Wranglers.

The London Blitz will be playing in their sixth consecutive Premier Division Final as they take on their heated cross-town rivals, the London Warriors.

The elite championship game of the BAFA (British American Football Association) National Leagues kicks off at 7:30pm on Saturday September 24 and features some big names from the world of American football and showbusiness.

Among the Warriors players suiting up will be television presenter and huge NFL fan Vernon Kay.

In his first season back in American football since playing as a junior for the Manchester All-Stars, Kay has established himself as a hard-hitting and willing defender.

Kay said: “It’s going to be a tough contest for the Warriors as the Blitz are reigning champions and after their successful time in Europe, they will be flying high.

“But come September 24, BritBowl XXV is going to be a spectacle to behold.”

The Blitz, who play their home games at Finsbury Park and feature former Gladiators star Rod Bradley (Spartan) among their playing ranks, are the reigning BritBowl champions and they added to their trophy cabinet in July when they won the EFAF Cup – American football’s version of the Europa League.

During the regular season, the Blitz tied with the Warriors 6-6 and then beat their rivals in the rematch by an 8-2 scoreline. The Blitz posted a regular season record of nine wins, no losses and one tie. They advanced to the championship game with a 41-0 drubbing of the Bristol Aztecs.

The Warriors are also no strangers to the BritBowl stage. Formed in 2005, they have won seven national championships across youth and senior levels. This senior team has yet to win the Premier Division Trophy but did secure senior titles in Division Two (2008) and Division One (2009).

Led by quarterback Jerome Allen, the Warriors boast a hard-hitting and exciting team. Among those looking to make a real impact at Crystal Palace on Saturday night will be wide receiver Marvin Allen, who played professionally in NFL Europe and went on to win a Super Bowl ring with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Also in action will be arguably the greatest player in British American football history in Victor Muhammad, who played running back for the London Monarchs way back in 1991.

The Warriors, who are led by the man who led the NFL’s search for international talent in Tony Allen, won eight games in the regular season, lost once to the Blitz and tied one game. They reached the final with a 34-7 thrashing of the Tamworth Phoenix.

BritBowl XXV (25) will see eight finals take place over the course of two hard-hitting, action-packed days at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Saturday September 24 and Sunday September 25. Here is the line-up for BritBowl XXV weekend:

Event organiser Drew Anderson says: “BritBowl XXV will feature a mouth-watering Premier Division Final on Saturday with the two best teams in the country going head to head. But the whole weekend should be great with some outstanding finals and entertainment on offer.”

The Urban Voodoo Machine will provide entertainment on Saturday evening along with human beatbox machine Lippicool and street dancers from around the world.

Both the European Football League (EFL) and the EFAF Cup group games will kick-off in April 2012 and the Final’s weekend for the EuroBowl will be July 21-22 while the EFAF Cup will be held the weekend before on July 14-15.
